"Red-headed
Woodpecker is a painting of a striking and beautiful woodpecker
of the open woodlands and park-like habitats. They are threatened
in my area of the northeast, so I don't get to see them as often
as I'd like. Recently one flew across the road in front of me and
I catch my breath at the stunning color and beauty. Flying low
over roads, colliding with vehicles is part of their population
problems, habitat loss, as well as nesting competition by other
birds, especially the European Starling also contribute to the
decline of this woodpecker. You can consider yourself lucky to
spot this wonderful and uncommon bird."
