This unique birdhouse was built by my husband and sat in my garden on the post for about twelve years. I painted the birdhouse at the time with the Americana colors. Last year the post was needed for a grapevine support, and we took down this charming birdhouse. I looked at it with fresh eyes and decided to "preserve" it in a painting featuring the junco in a winter setting. "Stars and Stripes" seemed the most fitting title. I'm continually amazed at how many wonderful ideas and painting subjects are all around me-- just waiting! This painting could serve as a companion piece to "Old Glory Morning".
