"Many times I've seen the male indigo bunting . I know he nests on my property in the thickets. I've also admired the beautiful wildflower, fringed gentian. It occurred to me they could be matched together in this painting during the early fall when the flower is still blooming and before the birds molts away his colorful blues. I used that window of opportunity to create "September Blues"-- the vibrancy of these colors was both appealing and exciting to paint."
