"I have an old barn. Inside in the darkened interior hanging on a nail is a lantern that is rusted, bent , and the glass was broken out. It hung there for years and seemed to have no life. Then one spring day, I came into the barn and looked up at it ,and there was the beginnings of a nest being built in the center of the lantern. Carolina Wren!! I saw this wren flitting about the barn several times and the idea for this painting was born. New life for the old lantern."
