"There is nothing more beautiful than a winter marsh. A late winter marsh, when the water is open and spring is nearing gives the added possibility of a marsh coming to life and of seeing wildlife in the area. The great blue heron is an artful creature with graceful lines to its body. So wary, it's always exciting to catch a glimpse of one of these herons. I paint this bird frequently, not able to resist how stunning it is. Many people don't realize that as long as the water is open and the heron can find his food, it can be at home in a winter snow-covered scene."
