"Farms in my area are fast disappearing. I came upon an old abandon farm with the barns and other outbuildings in disrepair. An old rusty hinge caught my eye at the bottom of a crooked barn door. The sun was hitting it and I took a photo--not knowing then how I would use this image in a creative way. One day some time later, I was looking through a group of photos and came upon this photo again. Instantly, the idea flashed in my mind of a family who lived on this once active farm. How perhaps a new family would move in and repair the farm and start over again. The bluebird building a nest on this property to start his family was a vision that I thought would be a good parallel for this idea. His colors repeat the colors in the rusty hinge, the dried leaves on the vines, and the hay inside the barn. The essence of this painting is the constant ongoing renewal of nature, wildlife and people."
