"Flowers and Candy" was a title I thought of before a painting was even started or finished. I liked the concept and decided to use it someday for a special piece. The perfect idea came to me one day while I watched a male cardinal tenderly feeding his mate a choice bit of food (candy) in the rose bush (flowers). This behavior is known as courtship feeding. My roses were pink, but artistic license allows me to change the color of the rose to red and match his beautiful scarlet feathers, blending into the scene."
