"
Bygone Days" incorporates life in rural country towns and
villages of yesteryear. The antiques pictured symbolize life on
the farm and in the towns: the chicken, horse and dairy farmers,
the apple growers and most important, the people themselves. The
tools I've pictured are those used by these people to build their
home, barns and sheds, plant their gardens and preserve the
harvest as well as just live their lives.
The chipmunk, who found his way into the shed for sunflower
seeds, represents the
ever -present wildlife that was a constant for each generation.
This painting celebrates the 250th birthday anniversary in 2003
of Sussex County as well as the strong American spirit of the
people who carved their place in our early beginnings of a simple
country life. In these times of hectic busy-ness, my hope is that
"Bygone Days" will help to remind us all of these
wonderful days of long ago."
